I was born in Canada to a Lutheran minister and his wife. Growing up I never thought that I would follow in my father's footsteps - I wasn't against the idea, it just never crossed my mind. Eventually, however, the Lord led me to ministry. I began theological study at Tyndale Bible College in Toronto and ministered at a Christian and Missionary Alliance church. Even then, teaching was the one aspect of ministry that I enjoyed the most. While there I met my Aussie wife Nicole and in 1996 we relocated to Sydney where I began work in Gymea Baptist Church. I held several roles at the church, eventually moving into my current role of Preaching and Teaching pastor.
In 2005 I was asked to join the faculty of Morling College on a part-time basis. Over the years I have taught the Biblical Survey courses, Church History, an Introduction to NT Greek and Advanced Preaching. While working in two institutions has its challenges I have found that working in a local church keeps my teaching grounded in active ministry and involvement in the academy strengthens that ministry.
My external ministry includes training events and preaching and speaking at a wide range of events (see Academic CV below for more info if you're interested).
When I began work at Morling I also started a Doctor of Ministry degree through the college. I completed the coursework component of the degree in 2008 and began work on my project which I focused on feedback for preachers. The project was completed late in 2012 and the degree conferred in May 2013.
It is my hope to turn the project into a effective tool for preachers all over the world. This website is the beginning of that journey. The first trial of my proposal will be completed soon and the second is planned for 2014. Beyond that I hope that this site will continue to grow and that I'll be able to write up my findings in a book.
I live in Sydney with my wife and three daughters and spend my spare time watching ice hockey and coaching my daughter's soccer teams.
